Why Home is Best for Family Photo Session | Spring Hill Family Photographer

When you search online for family photo sessions, I know you’re bombarded with images of perfectly dressed families in glowing fields at sunset. They are beautiful images, and I too love golden hour - the time the sun is close to setting, and it casts a beautiful glow about everything. But what if you have little kiddos who need to go to bed before sunset, or it’s winter, and the fields and parks are not at their most beautiful, or it’s 35 degrees outside? Do you wait until summer and fall? No! You move indoors!

There are so many good reasons to have a family session at home. Here are a few:

Reason #1: Home is where you and your child are most comfortable.

As a mom, I know it can be a serious production to get everybody ready and out the door for a photo session. Staying at home can eliminate the stress of hustling to get out the door, having all the snacks and drinks and kid stuff you need, being in traffic (especially if you’re running late!), or a shy kiddo needing time to warm up to a new place. At home, everyone is in a familiar place with the people they love. All your kids’ favorite toys and books are right at their fingertips. This will allow all of you to relax and enjoying being together doing the things you do when no one’s watching.

Reason #2: Everything you need is already there. No need to bring anything with you.

In my experience as a mom, kids need to eat or drink something every 42 seconds. Am I right?? At home, there is no shortage of snacks. And depending on their age, you may need a stroller, diapers, extra clothes, bathrooms that are super close, toys, band-aids, the list could go on and on. At home, there are plenty of clothes, all their favorite toys and books, and the best…bathrooms available, no walking or waiting necessary.

Reason #3: The weather is always perfect.

If I could choose a superpower, I’d like to be able to change the weather. Some days are just not meant to outdoor family photos. Sad but true. Inside your home? Always perfect. You want it warm? Turn up the heat. Too hot? Turn up the air conditioner. Pouring down rain? It’s dry inside. No matter the weather, we can do an indoor family session. Not to say that I don’t like to step outside too, because I do! I start my family sessions indoors, and then if circumstances are right, I love going outside and capturing more memories in your outside space. But there is no way we’d be standing in field during a rainstorm doing a family session. At home, there are options!

I could list out many more reasons why in-home sessions rock, but I’ll stop here for today. You will cherish the images we create together at your home. Every kid deserves to remember what their home looked like when they were a kid, and they deserve to see you in those pictures too!
